The reason to have a pre-purchase inspection when buying a used motorhome or caravan is to uncover any hidden problems*. The benefit of doing this, in the worst case scenario, is being able to step back from the purchase of a motorhome or caravan that has a serious hidden problem. Or in the case of smaller, more manageable problems, at least being able renegotiate the price.
The type of problems that can be uncovered by a pre-purchase inspection are of course many and varied. But the common, and potentially most serious problem you need to be aware of, is of course damp. Because of the sandwich construction method of motorhome and caravan walls, damp can build up over time inside without being visible. When it does become visible, you are already at the stage of requiring an expensive repair.
Important: You should have a pre-purchase inspection carried out whoever and wherever you are buying from. Yes, even from a dealer!
Pre-purchase inspections are different for motorhomes and caravans. Click on the motorhome or caravan image below to see what is included in an inspection.
*Habcheck engineers do not disassemble any components as part of the inspection procedure or carry out invasive damp checks. As such a Pre-Purchase Inspection Report should not be deemed as a valuation or indication of value nor a recommendation to purchase, it is for your guidance only.
No guarantee or warranty is offered or implied in consideration of the vehicle’s design, compliance with any manufacturer specifications, operation, mechanical condition or safety of any of components parts.
Should a subsequent purchase be made you should not regard this certificate as a warranty and the inspector responsible for carrying out the inspection will not be held responsible for faults that may become evident following the inspection.
By instructing Habcheck to carry out a Pre-Purchase Inspection the consumer understands the above and accepts this as a reasonable term of engagement of the services
