How a Habitation Service Can Save You Money

News & Advice

A Habitation Service Catches Problems Early
Many motorhome and caravan owners view a habitation service as a cost - right up to the point they discover they need to have an expensive repair carried out! There are many reasons to have an annual habitation service, but one of the most compelling is to catch small problems early, before they turn into major repairs. And of course, one of the main culprits is damp.

Take a careful look at the outside of your motorhome. In particular, inspect where the roof meets the walls, where the walls meet each other and around the windows. You will find a combination of gaskets and sealant. From the moment your motorhome or caravan left the factory, all of those joints have been moving against each other. Inevitably, at some point, a seal will fail, a small gap will open and damp will start to penetrate in. If left undetected, the gap will get bigger and more and more damp will penetrate. In addition, other small gaps will also start to appear.

The Damp Hunters!
A key objective of a habitation service to hunt out damp in all of those vulnerable areas. If caught early, repairs are actually pretty cheap and easy to carry out. But if left undetected? Well, the result can be anything from major cosmetic repair to whole wall section replacement.

The construction method of most motorhomes and caravans makes the early signs of damp hard to spot. The walls and roof tend to be made from a sandwich of materials. This allows damp to penetrate from the outside but not show on the inside until the problem is serious. Professional habitation service engineers use very high quality damp meters that can detect early signs of damp.

A Habitation Service Saves Money in The Long Run
So yes, a habitation service does cost money, but in the long run may well save you money by helping you avoid costly repairs and by maintaining the value of your motorhome or caravan.
